Mold Remediation

Mold Remediation

With sufficient moisture and food source, mold can grow on a multitude of indoor surfaces, including drywall, ceiling tiles, furnishings, fabrics, books and paper products.

Fungi and bacteria grow in moist environments in the presence of suitable substrates that provide the necessary nutrients. In all situations, the underlying cause of water intrusion must be corrected or fungal growth will recur.

Fungal growth does not require the presence of standing water, leaks or floods; Fungi can grow when the relative humidity of the air is high. Fungi can also grow in damp areas such as unvented bathrooms and kitchens, crawl spaces, wet foundations and at roof and window leaks.

Fungi have been associated with allergies, asthma and other upper respiratory ailments, if the occupants are suffering from health effects from any cause, including but not limited to fungal (mold) exposure, they should consult a medical professional If health effects could be related to fungal exposure, relocation off site should be considered.

If mold growth is detected, the affected areas must be identified, which is usually performed by a licensed Mold Assessor. Moldy materials must be decontaminated properly or discarded. This process is called “remediation”. Protection of the professional technicians removing the moldy materials and the building occupants is critical due to the potential health effects. One important aspect of mold remediation is containment, which is the practice of sealing off the affected area. This ensures that mold spores are not released to the surrounding areas, causing mold to grow in previously unaffected areas. Upon completion, clearance testing is performed by a third party to evaluate the effectiveness of remediation. No job is too large or too small.
